How to Replace the Oil Seal on a Cold Press Machine: A Step-by-Step Guide

Oil seals are made of rubber and will age after long-term use, causing oil leakage, so it need to be replaced. Follow the steps below for a detailed guide.

1. Remove the Balance Rod

  • Loosen the Screws: Start by removing the screws on the two balance rods of the cold press machine.
  • Move the Balance Rods: Shift the balance rods aside to clear the workspace for the next steps.

2. Remove the Oil Cylinder Flange

  • Detach the Flange: Unscrew and remove the oil cylinder flange at the top of the cylinder.

3. Lift the Oil Cylinder

  • Press the “Up” Button: Use the machine controls to lift the oil cylinder to its top position.

4. Move the Worktable

  • Use a Forklift: Carefully use a forklift to move the worktable away from the press.

5. Lower the Piston Rod

  • Press the “Down” Button: Operate the machine to lower the piston rod to its lowest position.

6. Disconnect the Oil Pipes

  • climb up to the top of the cold press machine.
  • Remove the Pipes: Detach the two oil pipes connected to the oil cylinder.
  • Insert into the Oil Tank: Place the pipes into the oil tank’s refill ports to avoid oil spillage.

7. Drain the Oil

  • Use a Forklift: Push the piston rod upward, allowing the oil in the upper chamber of the cylinder to flow back into the oil tank.
  • Lower the Piston Rod: Once drained, lower the piston rod back down.
  • Remove the screws of the oil cylinder’s gland flange,
  • take out the piston rod,
  • and push out the broken oil seal.

8. Replace the Oil Seal

  • Remove the Old Seal: Detach the worn or damaged oil seal from the piston rod.
  • Install the New Oil Seal: Following the diagram, sequentially place the new oil seal rings onto the piston rod. Use a mallet to ensure the seals are securely fitted.

9. Reinstall the Piston Rod

  • Protect the Rod: Handle the piston rod carefully to avoid scratching its surface.
  • Forklift Support: Use a forklift to support the piston rod and reinstall it into the oil cylinder.
  • Reattach the Flange: Secure the flange and tighten the screws.

10. Reconnect the Oil Pipes

  • Top of the Machine: Reconnect the two oil pipes at the top of the press machine.
  • Tighten the Connections: Ensure all connections are secure and leak-proof.

11. Reposition the Worktable

  • Raise the Oil Cylinder: Lift the oil cylinder to its highest position.
  • Use a Wooden Block: Place a wooden block for alignment and to prevent damage during positioning.
  • Return the Worktable: Use a forklift to carefully move the worktable back into place.

12. Final Adjustments

  • Lower the Oil Cylinder: Press the “Down” button to lower the cylinder to its lowest position.
  • Secure the Flange Screws: Tighten the screws on the oil cylinder flange.
  • Reattach the Balance Rod: Reinstall the balance rod and secure it tightly with screws.
